J. Michael DiGiglia

Of Counsel

J. Mike DiGiglia was born and grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and has been practicing law since 1996.  Mike is licensed to practice in the State of Louisiana and Colorado, and has been admitted to practice in the following federal courts: United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Tenth Circuits, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.  Mike has been involved in many administrative environmental law matters, as well as civil, environmental, and toxic tort cases, and criminal environmental law cases representing a wide variety of industries.  From 1978 to 1996, while working as a biologist and an environmental scientist, he served in a number of environmental management and environmental consulting positions and performed such services for a large number of companies in the chemical manufacturing, oil refining, electric generation, oil and gas, and hazardous waste management industries.  Mike’s practice areas include Administrative Law, Environmental Law, Toxic Torts and Environmental Crimes Defense.

Mr. DiGiglia has served as counsel and lead counsel in many cases involving: chemical plant explosions; tank explosions; chemical plant fires; salt dome storage cavern failures; CERCLA cost recovery actions; OPA-90 cost recovery actions; coordinated private party cleanups under CERCLA; toxic tort cases involving chemical releases to air; toxic tort cases involving chemical releases to soil and groundwater; toxic tort cases involving oil and chemical releases to water; oilfield legacy claims; administrative enforcement actions involving on-shore and offshore CWA-NPDES violations; administrative permitting and enforcement actions involving RCRA, CWA, CAA, TSCA, EPCRA and CERCLA; alleged environmental crimes under RCRA, EPCRA, CWA and CERCLA; natural resource damage claims; SDWA citizen suits; drinking water contamination claims; asbestos contamination; product liability involving chemical exposure; product liability involving defective chemical manufacturing processes; benzene exposure from aviation fuel; odor releases from landfills; and trespass/destruction of wetlands.

Education

Mr. DiGiglia attended McNeese State University with curriculum in Pre-Med, attended Louisiana State University and studied Pre-Vet, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Science in 1980 from Utah State University in Logan, Utah.  He graduated in 1986 with a Master of Science in Environmental Science from McNeese State University.  Mike graduated from the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert School of Law in 1996 and was a member of the Order of the Coif.
