Leigh, a Lafayette native, attended Tulane University, majoring in psychology and sociology. After earning graduate degrees in education and developmental psychology followed by working as a teacher of the deaf, Leigh returned to Tulane for law school where she served as Senior Managing Editor of Tulane Law Review. She received the Dean Rufus C. Harris Civil Law Award for her publications in volumes 91 and 92 of the Review and the Class of 2000 Law Review Award. While at Tulane, she completed judicial externships with Judge Jay Zainey of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana and Judge Madeleine Landrieu of the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal.
